UK clock changes: GMT, BST and sunrise

When UK clocks change and how British Summer Time affects the sunrise and sunset calendar.

GMT and British Summer Time

UK clocks move forward on the last Sunday in March and back on the last Sunday in October. In 2026, the dates are 29 March and 25 October. The spring change is at 1 AM GMT; the autumn change is at 2 AM BST.

British Summer Time is one hour ahead of GMT. Moving the clock changes the label attached to sunrise or sunset, not the sun’s motion. The city calendar already applies the correct offset for each date.

Reading the sun calendar

Every city shows the offset for the selected date and its next scheduled clock change. All sunrise, sunset and twilight times are already local; do not add another hour yourself.

Countdowns use actual elapsed seconds. The calendar changes offsets on the transition date, and daylight duration is calculated across the real local day. Future legislation can change the schedule, so the timezone version is shown on every city page.
