A practical guide
US daylight saving time and sunrise
How US clock changes affect sunrise and sunset times, including Arizona and Hawaii.

Where the clocks change
Under the current US rules, participating places advance clocks at 2:00 AM on the second Sunday in March and turn them back at 2:00 AM on the first Sunday in November. The 2026 dates are March 8 and November 1.
Hawaii and most of Arizona do not observe daylight saving time. The Navajo Nation is an exception within Arizona. A state name alone is not sufficient to choose every local rule.
Reading the sun calendar
Every city shows the offset for the selected date and its next scheduled clock change. All sunrise, sunset and twilight times are already local; do not add another hour yourself.
Countdowns use actual elapsed seconds. The calendar changes offsets on the transition date, and daylight duration is calculated across the real local day. Future legislation can change the schedule, so the timezone version is shown on every city page.
